Who is Charity Wakefield?

Charity is an English actress and producer who was born on September 18, 1980 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

At the tender age of seven she appeared in an amateur dramatics school production of Sleeping Beauty.

Charity went on to study a three-year acting course at the Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2003.

As well as having an incredible gift for acting, Charity has a number of musical talents.

She has a strong soprano singing voice, plays the violin beautifully, and also learned to play the piano for her part in Sense & Sensibility — so it really was her playing.

What has Charity Wakefield starred in?

Charity played Miss Temple in the 2006 BBC mini-series of Jane Eyre.

She later landed another BBC period drama role — that of Marianne Dashwood in Sense & Sensibility (2008).

Although she appeared in numerous shows, shorts and TV movies in between, her next big part was as Mary Boleyn in the BBC’s Wolf Hall (2015).

Charity also featured in NBC drama The Player (2015) alongside Wesley Snipes.

On Christmas Day 2016, she guest starred in the Doctor Who Christmas Special — The Return of Doctor Mysterio.

Between the years of 2020 and 2023, Charity has played Georgina Dymov in Hulu’s historical comedy-drama The Great, which was later shown on Channel 4.

Is Charity Wakefield married?

Charity became engaged to her now-husband David Newman in 2012, who proposed to her during the filming of movie Day of the Flowers in Cuba.

The couple met in 2005 while they both appeared in a stage adaptation of The Graduate.

They reportedly tied the knot on June 04, 2016 after dating for more than a decade.

Even though the couple shares pictures of themselves together on social media and are very much in the spotlight, details of where they wed are not in the public domain.

What is Scoop about?

In Netflix’s ScoopCharity takes on the royal role of Princess Beatrice.

Announcing the news of her role on Instagram, the actress said: “I have the honour of playing HRH Princess Beatrice alongside a, quite frankly, frighteningly good cast.”

The film follows the events that led up to the Prince Andrew Newsnight interview, and the aftermath from it.

It also recreates the famous interview itself, which was conducted by Emily Maitlis.

The movie is based on the memoir of producer Sam McAlister, who has since revealed that Princess Beatrice was an unexpected guest to the shocking interview.

Speaking on This Morning she said: “I’d turned up to the negotiation slightly brassy, a little bit ballsy, as I’m sure you’ve noticed about me already, a little bit ooh, a little bit aah, albeit with intellect and the legal element.

“But then Prince Andrew said ‘oh by the way, I’ve brought someone with me”.

“I’m thinking it’s got to be a lawyer, please God for your sake, let it be a lawyer, and then round the corner, Princess Beatrice is here.”
